| Mountain Checkout |
You have flown forever but always avoided the mountains. Why? Mountain flying can be a very fun and rewarding part of flying, plus you can get more utility out of your aircraft. During your mountain checkout you will learn how to safely navigate in the mountains. You will learn why it is important to cross a pass at a 45-degree angle. How to fly up a canyon. Which indicated airspeed to fly final approach at. More importantly, you will learn the common sense techniques for mountain flying that have been learned over many hours. You will learn the most common mistakes pilots have made in the mountains that have got them in trouble. Learn how Density Altitude affects your airplane.
Course Eligibility:
Private pilot certificate
Third Class Medical
Completion requirements:
4 hours of Mountain flying in the Rocky Mountains.
Stops at three Mountain Airports, which could include but are not limited to Aspen, Leadville, Kremmling, Grand Junction.
Approximately 3 hours of ground school and flight planning prior to the flight.
Single Engine Aircraft:
Mooney M20C or Mooney M20E
Estimated Cost and Time Frame:
Cost of airplane, and 35 dollars an hour for the instruction.
